Travel | A Roman Holiday Part 1

We’ve just got back from a wonderful trip to Rome (also L’s Italian debut), and we fell so unbelievably madly in love with the city we’re already desperate to return.

We nabbed ourselves an AirBnB (my new obsession! - F) just off Campo di Fiori near the Piazza Navona. Shirking the ‘pack light’ option, we had outfits galore and got properly dressed up. When in Rome, right?

We started off our adventure with a determination for a decent breakfast to fuel our city trekking and found the absolutely incredible Coromandel, just a 10 minute jaunt from our apartment. We went every morning bar one, and only because it’s closed Mondays (sad face). Without an ounce of doubt, we recommend the pancakes (especially if you’re ravenous) and the peanut butter and jam toasted cinnamon bread sandwich. Yep, you read that right. Heaven. The antique teacups and eclectic kitsch decor were just the ticket.

After we’d upped our carb levels we skulked off in search off the Vatican, dodging the tour touts. We didn't go inside as we only had a couple of days and wanted to explore Rome, but we still class it as a must-see in Rome. Completely and utterly magnificent.

Next stop, lunch - as F is a long term fan of Ventian special cicchetti (and because breakfast was just so filling) we nipped into a bakery and grabbed some hunks of olive and cheese pizza bread before visiting the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.

Unfortunately, the Trevi Fountain is currently under renovation (and by this we mean complete renovation from head to toe - you can barely see it, actually) and whilst we knew it was going under repair works, we weren’t quite prepared for the sheer amount of scaffolding. Skip it until it’s fixed we say.

The pantheon is huge and impressive - we loved walking around the entire area, which is steeped in history with plenty of side streets to nip down and fountains to dip your toes in. With that said, we have to have a little boast here - the weather was absolutely stunning for November, hitting 22c. Bare legs akimbo.

We finished up the day with spaghetti and clams round the corner from our apartment before rolling into bed with gelato from Grom (we loved the extra dark chocolate dairy free from here best) and gossiping until the small hours. That’s how girls holidays should be, right?

Stay tuned for part two!
