Printemps, la mode - could it get any more Parisian than Springtime fashion? The glittering jewel in the fashion month crown, Paris Fashion Week is always a spectacle of the greatest established names and the most anticipated shows. Only a certain few create true furore - Burberry in London, Dolce & Gabbana in Milan - but the Chanel show always takes the macaron for astounding theatre and opulence. Let's round up the last trend report for SS16...
1. STATEMENT | GRUNGE GIRL
|

If the catwalks are anything to go by, the Paris SS16 girl is punked up. Leather, darker hues and muted tones rocked the runway at hard hitting Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton. The new grunge is unrefined yet distinctly feminine - it's all in the silhouette next Spring/Summer.
2. COLOUR | PRETTY IN PINK
|
L-R: Chanel, Cedric Charlier, Emanuel Ungaro, Barbara Bui, Valentin Yudashkin

Nothing sang off the catwalks more than the rosiest hues. I forecast a massive resurge for the girlies of tones come Spring/Summer - from palest peony to rose to hot pink and fuchsia. Shapes across fashion month in pink tended to lean towards androgyny to balance the sweetness; this is more statement making than saccharine. My favourite? Chanel, of course.
3. PRINT | CHECK IN THE BOX
|
L-R: Chanel, Emanuel Ungaro, John Galliano, Hermes, Moncler Gamme Rouge

There was an abundance of ditsy retro prints, yards of stripes and a good deal of folkiness too, but in Paris we're keeping it in check, staying square and boxing it up. From gingham-esque picnicking frolics at Stella McCartney to embroidered grids at Moncler, this is one for the minimalists (and for those who get queasy at the mention of 'boho').
4. DETAIL | SILVER
|
L-R: Loewe, Iris van Herpen, Vanessa Seward, Mason Margiela, Saint Laurent

Arguably gold has taken centre stage for the last few seasons, but silver is about to creep back in on its own merit. From touches here and there (looking at you Chanel, anyone guess what my favourite show was...?), embellishments at Margiela, softer sheens at Iris van Herpen to all out shiny goodness at Loewe, it's the new metallic on the block - but the one you've always loved.
5. NEUTRAL | NAVY
|
L-R: Chloé, Andrew GN, Dries van Noten, Lemaire, Martin Grant

For any lovers of 'How to be Parisian', this is one neutral that is so quintessential to Paris it hardly needs a mention. Classic, clean, never tired - it's truly perhaps the one colour that packs a punch all year round. As seen at Chloé (anyone else mildly surprised by the sportier shapes?), Chanel (yes
again) and Dries van Noten, enter into the French love affair.
Stand out show?
For me, it has to be Chanel. I loved everything about it - the airport theme, candy colours mixed with the usual black white and navy, the return to tweed, the emphasis on tailoring, oversized silhouettes and the bags were just perfect. No contest for me on this one.
So that's fashion month wrapped up! Post Christmas, I'll be writing up a few posts on essential updates for the Spring, and later for the Summer, too. No doubt the high street will be coming up with all things bright and beautiful - I hope you've enjoyed the reports on SS16!
