The Moonraker Hotel

So if you follow us on instagram (or if you're a long term reader, in which case, thank you and hey!) you may remember us waxing lyrical about a stay at the Moonraker in June. We set ourselves the mammoth (read totally stupid but fun) task of driving from London to Devon to Bath to Oxfordshire to Northamptonshire between Friday - Sunday. No mean feat! In my (Felicity's) trusty little Peugeot, we zoomed through rolling hills from county to county to arrive in tranquil Trowbridge. This was following our awesome Eden project experience (our lovely friend and fellow blogger Catherine went a few weeks after, go read about her experience too!), and we really needed some R and R *cough blogger problems cough*.

First up, we drove up the driveway and started squealing in what was probably a very annoying and immature fashion, but it really does have wow factor. This isn't a stately home, but a beautiful country house hotel surrounded by acres of stunning gardens (the best kind - filled to the brim with wildflowers and grasses up to your knees) and it just had such a gorgeous charm about it. It helped that the sun - for the first time that weekend - peeked through the clouds to make it all the more glorious.

Let's start with the deal. We decided that we'd splash out on ourselves a little rather than go cheap, but to be honest this was worth every penny - breakfast, three course dinner for two, the best available room - £165. Considering we went dutch, not bad at all.

The food was absolutely sublime (from complimentary flapjacks on arrival to breakfast the next day), and the menu dictated daily by the chef according to fresh local produce (all intolerances and allergies catered for, too).

Matthew, their head chef, is River Café trained so you just know that everything is natural, seasonal and scrumptious. Salmon is smoked onsite in the smokery, and they keep bees, pigs and chickens too.

We'd let ourselves in for a fair bit of stress and planned to shoot several outfit posts alongside our work with ASUS and the Eden Project, and we both loved the Neals Yard products, giant bath and comfy bed. We climbed in around 11pm, and struggled to climb out again. Our room itself (No. 23) was gorgeous - we'll just let the pictures above do the talking there...

We've both promised our other halves a return trip - it was worth every penny, and was totally blissful. If you're heading South West, there is no place better - it's just 15 minutes drive from Bath, so you get the buzz of the city and tranquility of the country all in one.

Thank you to the team at the Moonraker for making our stay so pleasant.

  1. This hotel looks absolutely fabulous. What I wouldn't give for a wee night away there with my hubbie - absolute bliss. Lorraine x
